Match Report Round 5 – Martinborough v Marist

Seniors A’s – Great battle with some touches of class from key players (Nathan Hunt, Cody Whittaker and the Haira Brothers) but ended up losing 31- 34. In the forwards we lacked hunger to win and retain the ball at times which cost us possession at critical times, however it definitely wasn’t a one-sided affair. We’ll be looking for improvement in looking after our ball and making the most of opportunities to help the score board ticking over. Next week Carterton at Carterton for both Seniors and Reserves, our position on the table makes this a must win for both teams to stay I touch with the top four.

Match Report Round 3 – Martinborough v Pioneer

A mean-street double! Senior Reserves convincingly beaten 52-14. Senior A’s got out to a good lead but got run over by a Pioneer train! Final score 36-25 to Pioneer. Player of the Day was Kody Thompson who’s having a great season. Plenty for both teams to work on and with Greytown next week it’ll be a tough challenge.

Match Report Round 2 – Martinborough v Eketahuna

Senior A – we were expecting a tough game from Eketehuna and we got one. Final score 19 to 9 with Eke taking advantage of opportunities at critical points in the game, better than we did. Great game none the less by our team. Well done to Max Hornblow for getting player of the day and the 3 best and fairest points. Pioneer, followed by Greytown will be a big challenge over the next 2 weeks.

Senior Reserves – had another bonus point win beating Eketehuna 39 to 20. Some great breaks and tries during the game. Pioneer will be a tough game at the Jean St cauldron.

Match Report Round 1 – Martinborough v East Coast

Great start to season. Big crowd turned up and the boys delivered exciting rugby. Thanks to all our sponsors and supporters, we are underway for 2014.

The Senior A’s put on a great performance to beat the Coasties 36 to 9. Forwards won the ruck contest, set piece was executed and the backs were dangerous, all day. Big shout-out to our 9 debutants who played extremely well with Tim Roberts taking out player of the day.

The Senior Reserves let Coasties in for an early try, then it was all one way traffic with Martinborough piling on plenty of tries in a dominant display. Final score, 49 to 12. Junior taking out player of the day and the $50 BK vouchers.

Next week – we’re taking on Eketehuna at home. It will be a tough game against an inform side who put a cricket score on Carterton to open the season!

Seniors hit pre-season running!

Saturday saw a energetic Senior team put on a good showing in front of the home crowd, unfortunately couldn’t secure the win against Petone but plenty of potential to get excited about for the upcoming regular season comp.
